The Red Rocks

Day 14 -- Aaron, my cousin Natalie and our friends Megan and Annissa all told us NOT to miss Sedona. It was not a planned stop on our trip, but luckily it is situated nicely between Phoenix and the Grand Canyon. Aaron showed us an alternate route so that we could not only drive right through it, but also drive up the Mogollon Rim on our way out of it as we headed north to the Grand Canyon.

As we approached Sedona, all we could say was "Wow!" What a beautiful place. The main road winds right through these beautiful red rocks formations speckled with ponderosa pines. It is breathtaking. The town is situated in the valley and each building can be no more than 3 stories high as to not block anyone's view of the red mountains.

Throughout Sedona, there are areas called Vortexes. Vortexes are believed to be areas of concentrated "energy" that facilitate prayer, meditation and healing. Though Adam and I don't really buy into that line of thinking, we did chose to climb one because it conveniently provided us with a spectacular view of the city.

The picture above is from the view point of the vortex we chose to climb. You'll notice my super cool air cast. Ugh. It is so ugly and ended up giving me a huge blister! But without it, I probably would have been hesitant to climb (gimp my way) up the mountain and would have missed the amazing view. When we arrived at the top, I started to cry a little. I was overcome by what an amazing artist our God is. So...maybe there is something to that whole vortex thing afterall.
